Janet Winsor, beloved and devoted mother, wife, sister and friend, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. She will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness, generosity, and quick wit.
Janet was born September 15, 1946 to Ruth Bennett Winsor and Gordon Dow Winsor. After growing up in Winchester, MA, and graduating from Winchester High School and Fisher College, she spent several years living in Germany - where she enthusiastically soaked up the culture and cuisine. She eventually settled in Mystic, Ledyard and North Stonington, Connecticut.
Janet was devoted to her two daughters and worked hard to provide for them, taking great pride in creating a welcoming, cared-for home. She spent many years running the main office at Little White School House, a school for kids with Cerebral Palsy.
In her free time, Janet enjoyed gardening, cooking and trying new restaurants. She made the best brownies, adored everything Christmas and loved autumn. She believed strongly in always sending thank you notes and cards. No one who met Janet forgot her kindheartedness. She was 74 years old.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, Gordon Dow Winsor and Ruth Bennett Winsor, her sister Susan Broussard, and her beloved dogs Harris, Csonka, Riggins, Heidi and Clancy. She will be missed greatly by her daughters Charlotte Dow Manning of East Lyme, CT, Emily Winsor Manning of Carlsbad, CA, son-in-law Sean Patrick McWhorter of Carlsbad, CA, grand-dog Mozy and husband Michael Hayes of North Stonington, CT, and is further survived by siblings Barbara Ann Winsor of Orlando, FL, Laura May Winsor Wolfe of Cape Cod, MA and John Thomas “Jack” Winsor, II of Concord, NH.
A private family service is scheduled Tuesday, July 20 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to any Lab Rescue, such as LabsandMore.org.
