Christopher John “Chris” McGilvray, 51, died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 8, 2021. He was the beloved son of Jennifer L. (Holman) and the late John J. (Jack) McGilvray.
He was a 1992 graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School, and a proud member of the school’s chorus.
He had participated in the Special Olympics from elementary school to beyond his high school graduation to 1995. In the later years of his participation, he was a champion swimmer, always qualifying for the Summer Games and spending those weekends of competition in Boston and on various college campuses.
To say he loved music, dancing and parties is an understatement!
In addition to his mother Jennifer, he is survived, by his Uncle Edward (Ted) McGilvray, his Aunt Dianne, cousins Laurie McGilvray, Kathy McGilvray, her husband Dave Edwards and their daughter Michaela.
He is also survived by the incredible staff of his Brockton TILL residence, where he lived since 2007. They provided a caring and comfortable, true home for him and the other three “guys” including his best friend as a “brother”. It was an active house for community events, as well as hosting many parties. In the past ten years he was able to have five active and joy filled mini-vacations, accompanied by his residence case manager. Each time the many pictures showed the fun and happiness.
He is also survived by the staff of his enthusiastically loved Vinfen Weymouth Day Program, that he attended since 2002. He looked forward to going there every week-day. Over the years they provided caring, support and encouragement, and he thrived with them. He enjoyed setting up his schedule for the day, including many various exercises and tasks. He was very proud when he accomplished these, and of course, the praise that followed.
From the very beginning of his life, to his last day, he brought smiles and laughs. Now he is giving the gift of improved health and chances of a better life to many through the work of New England Donor Services.
No services will be held. Burial will be private at a later date.
