Obituary

EGBERT, Anne Becker, 90, a 40-year resident of Greenwich, CT, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2021, in Sudbury, MA. She was born in Evergreen Park, IL to Marion Jaynes Becker and Robert Louis Becker of Ligonier, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Richard Egbert, whom she met in the Blue Hill Troupe in New York, and by her granddaughter, Caroline Grape and brother, Robert Becker, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA. Anne is survived by her three children, Allison Brokaw and her husband, Roberts Brokaw III of Wilmington, DE, Anne Grape of Weston, MA and Richard Egbert, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA; four grandchildren, Roberts Brokaw IV, C. Brokaw, Emily Grape and Skylar Egbert; sister, Marion Miller of Wilmington, DE and loyal poodle, Timmie.

Anne graduated from Connecticut College and received degrees from Columbia University Teacher’s College and University of Bridgeport. She taught music at Greenwich Academy and Greenwich Country Day School, instituting Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly and Dalcroze methods and composed original children’s musicals. She volunteered for the Greenwich Department of Social Services as an advisor to “Seniors for Seniors,” matching senior citizens and high school seniors; developed The Greenwich Youth Conservation Project which provides summer employment for teens; and served as Executive Director of the Fairfield/Westchester Science Education Center. After receiving an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy, Anne counseled families and children in private practice.

Anne had a beautiful soprano voice. She wrote and directed her original musical “It’s Never Too Late” for the benefit of the Greenwich Summer Youth Festival, and founded and directed the Greenwich senior choral group - “The Silvertones.”

A memorial service will be held at Second Congregational Church, 139 E. Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT on Thursday, July 22 at 11:00 am. A private family interment at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ will be at a later date.
