Albert "Al" R. Simonelli, 90, of Worcester, died Friday, July 9th in St. Vincent Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Burns) Simonelli; his son, Michael G. Simonelli of Worcester; a sister, Theresa Guenther of Dudley; three grandchildren, Diane (Simonelli) Allain of Auburn, Matthew Carr of Spencer and Alex Carr in Connecticut; a great-grandson, Clayton Allain and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three sons, Jeffrey, David and Stephen Simonelli, his daughter, Linda Carr, brother, Ben Simonelli and sister Mary Simonelli.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Gaetano and Lucia (Simonelli) Simonelli; and was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Al had been employed by Heald Machine for many years, first as a machinist and later as a programmer. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish, the Knights of Columbus and had worked there as a bar tender. Al had a passion for sharing his knowledge, especially with his grandchildren instilling culinary arts, such as how to prepare a proper antipasto for family gatherings; and brimmed with pride as he would take his family on their annual vacations to Hampton Beach or Cape Cod.
His funeral is Wednesday, July 14th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Tuesday, July 13th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m in the funeral home.
