Obituary

James Paul Carlisle, 70, of New Bedford passed away suddenly on Monday July 5, 2021. He was the husband of Cathy A. (Swaye) Carlisle; they had been married for 19 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Lloyd F. Carlisle and Rose A. (Duarte) Carlisle, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

In 1978, Jim was appointed to the Massachusetts State Police Academy and graduated in the 60th Recruit Training Troop. He started his career in B Troop and served on the Truck Team. He later transferred to the Middleboro Barracks where he served as station commander. He retired as Lieutenant in 2009.

In his retirement, he worked as a substitute paraprofessional at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. He had also been a mentor to students at the Nativity Preparatory School.

An avid golfer, he had been a member of the Allendale Country Club. He also enjoyed spending time on his boat and riding his bicycle.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy; his daughter, Katie; his sister, Rosemarie Busnengo; his devoted pets, Rosie and Gracie; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Gilbert A. Carlisle.

His Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday July 10, 2021 from 1-4 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 3 PM, during the visitation.
