Mary E. Thornton, 79, of West Palm Beach, FL, formerly of New Bedford, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday July 1, 2021. She was the wife of the late Donald Correia.
Born in Hyannis, the daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret (Earley) Thornton, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life, before retiring to Florida.
Mary was well-known for her positive attitude and compassionate spirit. She had a beautiful dedication to her spirituality and was a dedicated member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her children, Michael LeBlanc, Margaret Ryan, and Kelly Downing; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer LeBlanc; her grandchildren, Maison Bruce, Hana Coffey, Ashton LeBlanc and husband Colin Townsend, John LeBlanc and Tyler LeBlanc; her siblings, Robert Thornton (late wife, Nancy), Margaret Thornton, Jean Therrien and husband Paul, Marcia Moeder and husband Charles, and Suzanne Lanagan and husband John; and several nephews and nieces.
Her Homegoing Service will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2021 at 10 AM at the First Church of the Nazarene, 764 Hathaway Rd., New Bedford. The family will receive visitors at the Church from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Missionaries of Charity, 556 County St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
