Walter J. Ferreira, a resident of North Ft. Myers, Florida and a former 35 year resident of Salem, New Hampshire and former longtime resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida. He was 72 years of age.
Walter was born in Cambridge on July 9, 1948, a son of the late Walter Ferreira and Dorothy P. "Dolly" (Evers) Ferreira. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system. He also furthered his education and received his Associates Degree. He enlisted into the United States Navy on February 13, 1969 and served his country faithfully and with courage during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on November 2, 1970 with the rank of Seaman E-3. Walter worked for Verizon for many years and retired as a Switch Operator.
Walter is the beloved husband of the late Cheryl M. (Marcella) Ferreira. He is the devoted father of Dr. Cheryl Divito and her husband Jon, Walter J. Ferreira and his companion Heather DiNitto and Stephen A. Ferreira and his wife Noelle. He is the loving Grandpa to Matthew, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Brandon and Aiden. He is the beloved brother of Kenny Ferreira, Dennis Ferreira, Ronald Ferreira and his wife Karen and Robert Ferreira and his late wife Dawn. He is the dear companion of Ethelene Williams. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Walter's Funeral on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. His burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. His visiting hours will be on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
