Robert W. Card Jr. Veteran

Obituary

Robert Wayne Card Jr, 74, of Ledyard passed away June 29th, at his home of 44 years
surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in Westerly, Rhode Island on August 6, 1946, the son of Robert Wayne Card and
Virginia May Goulart.
Mr. Card was a Stonington high school graduate and volunteered to go into the service during
the Vietnam war. He later worked 21 years as a welder at United Nuclear Corporation. He also
worked at Foxwoods as a blackjack and baccarat dealer. He retired from PCC as a welder.
He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, playing card games, going to the beach, attending UConn games,
and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends, especially grandchildren. Family
and friends alike can agree they will all miss his ability to light up a room with his humor and
kind spirit (and will miss that clam chowder and Friday morning breakfast).
If there is one point to get across about Robert Card it is that he will always be remembered for
his kindness. He put others first and could often be seen lending others a helping hand. A good
way to honor his memory is to try to do an act of kindness for someone else (or help turtles
cross the street).
He is survived by his wife, Mary Card, his two daughters, Holly and Heather, his siblings, Judith,
Edward, and Donald Card, and his grandchildren, Amy, Declan, Keira, Liam, and Lillie.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, July 6th, at the Dinoto Funeral home, 17 Pearl Street,
Mystic, CT. A service will be held at 10am, Wednesday, July 7th, at the Dinoto Funeral home. In
lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to St. Jude’s or to the Salgi Esophageal Cancer
Research Foundation.
