Obituary

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Dean D. Bellas, Ph.D., 61, of Alexandria, Virginia, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, a beloved son of Anastasia Bellas and the late Demetrius G. Bellas who was Called Home on March 7, 2021. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Classical High School in Springfield. He furthered his education and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Western New England University in Springfield in 1982, a Master of Science Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1993 and his Doctorate Degree in Public Policy with a concentration in regional economic development policy from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA in 2005. Dr. Bellas was the President of Urban Analytics, Inc., an Alexandria, Virginia-based consulting firm. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University and the Catholic University of America, both in Washington. He was a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield and Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church, VA. During his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling to Greece. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved mother, he leaves his loving brother, George D. Bellas and his wife, Barbara; his loving sister, Cynthia B. Snow and her husband, Timothy; his three cherished nephews, James and Joseph Bellas and Nicholas Snow; his several dear cousins; his dear friends, Eva Salgado and Maria Panteleos; and his many dear extended family members and numerous friends. In addition to his beloved father, he was predeceased by his cherished niece, Angela Snow. Dean will Lie in Repose on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
