Frederick “Fred” Reno Maitland II, of Hanson, formerly of Braintree, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 25, 2021, after over a decade-long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Fred was born on February 10, 1946, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester and was the son of Frederick R. Maitland and Eleanore (Anderson) Maitland.
Since he was a little boy, Fred was a curious learner that inspired him to join the Boy Scouts. This led to him working with his hands over the years to be a “Fred-of-all trades” with building and crafting for his loved ones. He worked for several years in the engineering industry at companies such as the Quincy Navy Shipyard, Fisher Pierce/SIGMA, and Zildjian.
While he was proud of his professional skills and capabilities, his greatest pride was in his wife and children whom he adored. Fred was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan as well! Spending time at the pool and back deck while cooking on the grill was some of his favorite relaxation time, mainly because he was surrounded by his family and close friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick R. Maitland and Eleanore (Anderson) Maitland; and daughter, Lucinda Maitland. Fred is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Maitland; sister, Joyce Martin; daughters Rebecca Lindsey, Erin Maitland, and Allison Maitland; son, Eric Maitland; daughter-in-law, Erin (Jenkins) Maitland; grandchildren John, Ethan, Michael, Lane, Charlotte, and Timothy; and devoted service dog, "Tilly."
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, MA 02382 on Monday, June 28 from 3-5:30 PM with a brief Memorial Service immediately following the visiting hours.
