Gloria May (Janes) Connors age 93, died June 23, 2021 at Marion Manor in Taunton after a lengthy decline in health. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brockton, Gloria was the oldest child of Albert E. and Edna M. (Pickett) Janes. She was educated in Brockton Schools, graduating from Brockton High School in 1948. Gloria went on to study at Morton Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951. While in nursing training, Gloria met the love of her life, John J. Connors, whom she married in 1952. Their blissful (generally) union lasted for 63 years until John’s death in 2016. A long-time member of St Mary’s Parish, Gloria was active in Woman’s Guild, Society of St Vincent de Paul, Birthright, and as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was a recipient of the Marion Medal. Gloria put her nursing training into practice at Taunton State Hospital, first in the hospital facility, and later as a community mental health nurse. Despite the demands of job and family, Gloria always found time to help anyone in need. She was seldom idle and her handcrafted gifts and greetings cards brightened every occasion. Gloria is survived by her five children, of whom she was fiercely (but quietly) proud. Frank and wife Donna-Lee of FL, James P and wife Chris of NH, John J. wife Cheryle of Taunton, Mary-Elizabeth MaDan of Taunton and Jane M. and wife Deidre of Taunton. Also many grandchildren and great grandchildren, each one Gramma’s pride and joy. Also surviving are Sister-in-law Ann C. Long of FL, Brother Philip Janes and wife Peggy of RI, sister Lois Janes of Taunton and Brother-in-law Daniel Connors and wife Ruth of CT. Gloria is predeceased by her beloved husband John, Son-in-law Thomas MaDan, and eight siblings. The Connors family would life to extend gratitude to Dr. James Hoye and the staff of Marion Manor for their loving and compassionate care of our “Glo”. A funeral will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Tuesday, June 29th at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St Mary’s Church at 9 AM. Calling hours will be held on Monday night from 5-7 PM Interment St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
