Sherry Ann (Marcotte) Cleary, 74, of Whitman, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Monday, June 21 at home after a long illness.
She was born in Quincy on December 16, 1946 to the late Adeline (Emond) Marcotte.
Sherry was devoted to caring for others from a young age and volunteered as a Candy Striper while in high school. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1965 and the Henry O. Peabody School for Girls in Norwood with her Nursing Degree in 1967. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 45 years, working at Norwood Hospital, Mildred Alfred Nursing Home, Quincy Hospital, and Brockton Hospital, retiring in 2015.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working the hospital night shifts and spending her days in her garden and with her family. She could also hit a golf ball and a baseball farther than most people.
She was the wife of John Leo Cleary III for 50 years, 8 months, and 4 days. She leaves behind her son, John Leo Cleary IV of Whitman, MA and her daughter, Jennifer Ann Cleary and her partner, Joel Sugerman of Ayer, MA. She was the sister of Nikki Burke and husband John Burke of North Carolina; Bill Marcotte of Cambridge, MA; and Damien Marcotte and husband Ron Arruda of Santa Cruz, CA. She was the aunt to John (Jack) Burke of Charlotte, North Carolina and Stuart Burke of Virginia. She was also the sister-in-law to the late Riri Cleary; Bob and Kathy Cleary of Pocasset, MA; and Dan and the late Ann Cleary of Weymouth, MA. Sherry also had many close friends and will be missed by her friends, Doug and Jean Yates of Whitman, MA.
Services and burial will be private.
