Obituary

Mylan J. Costa, former owner of the Moors Restaurant, Bank Officer and Board Member, husband of Regina Costa, and a loving parent to her six children, passed away on Friday, June 18th. He was 86 years old.

Mylan was born in Provincetown, the son of Maline Costa and Vivian Marshall-Costa. He was a graduate of Provincetown High School and Boston University. Following college, he worked as a technician for Raytheon Corporation before coming back home to work for the First National Bank of Provincetown, doubling up his working hours with a stint as bartender at the Old Colony Tap. Mylan managed the Wellfleet Office of the Bank and was later instrumental in setting up the Bank’s first automated-computer system at the Operations Center in Orleans. Years later, Mylan would serve for 17 years as a member of the Board of Trustees at Seamen’s Bank. After his retirement from Seamen’s, he was named as an Honorary Member of the Board.

Mylan married Regina in 1965 and the two would remain inseparable for the next 56 years. When the operations of the Moors Restaurant became too much for his father, Maline, Mylan left the First National Bank and operated the Moors with Regina and the family for 27 years until he sold the restaurant in 1998.

Mylan had a passion for travel, fine dining, and family gatherings. If the business of life is making memories, Mylan and Regina were fortunate in being able to amass a portfolio of remembrances from family celebrations and from their trips to places such as Hawaii, Mexico, Israel, Russia, England, Western Europe, and the Azores. The holidays were a special time for all and no one wanted to miss Mylan’s Annual New Year’s Day Brunch where the family would gather at an unsuspecting restaurant for dining, laughter, and libations.

Mylan is survived by his wife Regina and her children, Claudia J. Hopkins, John K. Roderick and his wife Patricia, Jean S. Leonard, Ryan J. Roderick and his wife Christine, Cynthia J. Lambrou and her husband Mark, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Mylan is preceded in death by Kevin J. Roderick and Claudia’s husband, Craig B. Hopkins. Mylan is also survived by his brother William Costa and his wife Suzanne, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom and two daughters from a previous marriage: Vivian Principe and Karen Youree, both of Wyoming.

Pursuant to Mylan’s wishes, services will be private.

If desired, donations in memory of Mylan may be made to a charitable organization of your choice.
