Richard (Rick) Waring Barbar, born in Reno, Nevada, on February 17, 1969, passed from this life on June 7, 2021, at the age of 52 in Ventura, California. Rick spent his early youth in Lakewood Colorado but moved as a teenager to Carmichael, California. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara and his MBA in Finance and Investment Management from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He was an alumni member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
After graduating, Rick and his former wife, Loretta Padgett Barbar returned to California settling in Ventura. Rick is a descendant of two pioneer families of Ventura County.
Rick was an astute businessman having ably served as the President of Ventura Dental Services LLC. He was well-respected and a member of the Buena Ventura Club, a local business association.
Rick’s three children, Coby, Dani and Kylie, were the true loves of his life. He was a devoted father supporting them through their academic and sporting careers. He was their number one fan and coach. Rick was a fierce competitor whether it was sports, a card game or a cornhole tournament and he passed his enthusiasm for all things academic and sports to his children. He taught them never to be afraid of taking on a challenge.
Rick was like a brother to his many friends. He will always be remembered for his kind-heart, loyalty, out-going nature and his infectious smile. Rick is survived by his three children, Coburn Allen, Daniela Jeannine, and Kylie Caprice Barbar. He is also survived by his father Richard Martin Barbar and his stepmother Sandra Dunn, his mother Donna Sheppard Barbar, his sister Jeannine Barbar Hunt, his brother-in-law David Hunt and two nieces.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on July 10, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at the Museum of Ventura County, 100 E. Main Street, Ventura. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any remembrance be made in his name to the Rotary Club of Ventura-East Foundation, Inc.,1050 So. Kimball Road, Ventura, CA 93004. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
