Ignacio “Nacho” Arias passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, at the age of 59. He was born February 15, 1962 in Tototlan, Jalisco, Mexico to Salvador Arias and Ignacia Velarde de Arias. He was the sixth of seven children.
The family moved to Santa Barbara in 1974. Nacho attended Santa Barbara Junior High and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1981. Nacho played soccer and football in high school. He was a field goal kicker in football. Both teams were CIF champions. Some of his athletic accomplishments include: representing the US on the national level for soccer, kicking a 45 yard field goal in a football game, and also kicking 50 yard field goals in practice. The family moved to Ventura in 1984.
He met his wife, Angela, while they were working at Birnam Wood Golf Club in Montecito, CA. They were married in 1999 at the San Buenaventura Mission in Ventura, CA. He worked at Metropolitan Transit District in Santa Barbara as a bus mechanic for six years. In his spare time, Nacho enjoyed working on cars, buying antiques, watching soccer, barbequing, telling stories, and playing with his grandkids.
Nacho was preceded in death by his parents. Nacho is survived by his wife, Angela, son, Steve B. (Alissa) Arias, siblings, Rosalba (Gil) Valpena, and their sons, Evan and Julio, Guillermina (Froylan) Huerta, and their sons Fernando, Froylan, and Christian, Jose (Maria) Arias and their children, Alex, godson Daniel, and Xochitl, Mallena Arias, Josefina (Chris) Goodrich and their son Christopher, Horacio Arias, grandchildren, Otis, Luca, and Ivy, godson Gabriel, as well as many other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2021 with a Rosary from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura, 93001. Funeral Mass will be at the San Buenaventura Mission, 211 E. Main Street, Ventura, CA 93001 at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021. Burial will be at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, CA 93003. A reception celebrating his life will follow.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Thursday evening June 24, 2021 from 4 to 8pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday morning June 25, 2021 at 10:00 am in Mission Basillica San Buenaventura, 211 E. Main Street Ventura. Interment will be in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. A reception celebrating his life will follow.
