Worcester: Irene Thomas Nickolson, 92 of Worcester and Clearwater, FL passed away on June 18, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Anna (Savas) Thomas. She leaves her beloved son, Charles N. Nickolson and granddaughters Maria Nikoletopoulos and Irene, wife of Keith Gervais both of Southbridge, MA. She also leaves a great grandchild Elena and her sister Angelina (Angie) Treska and several nieces and nephews here and in Greece.
Irene graduated from Classical High School and Becker Jr. College, majoring in accounting and business administration. She was employed in various accounting positions for different companies for several years. In 1977, she became a registered broker/dealer with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). She operated her own stock, bond, and mutual fund brokerage office under the name Nickolson Securities. The firm was also a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corp (SIPC) and American Stock Exchange.
She was a member of the National Association of Accountants, The Worcester Business and Professional Women's Club, the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women in the 1977 and 1978 edition. She retired in 1982 when her husband's employment was transferred to North Carolina.
Irene was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Worcester, MA and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Clearwater, Florida., a member of the Church's Philoptochos Society, Seniors Club, and the Hellenic Arts Society. She was a benefactor to her church and in her honor the library of the church has been named Nickolson Academic Center.
Her husband of 47 years, Nicholas D. Nickolson, who was employed as a supervisor for ILCO Unican Corp. of Rocky Mount., passed away April 25, 2001 in their home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She also had two sisters who predeceased her- Mary Panagopoulos and Joanne Prutsalis.
She enjoyed gardening and spending her summers at her home in Falmouth, Cape Cod. In earlier years, she enjoyed traveling to Greece, where she also maintained a home in Pergo Eleas, Peloponisos, Greece.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 10-11 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral 102 Russell St. Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene's memory may be made to the St. Spyridon Building Fund.
