Arthur E. Travers, 95, of Dartmouth died June 15, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of the late Millicent G. (Carreiro) Travers.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John B. and Elsie (St. Onge) Travers, he lived in Dartmouth all of his life.
He was formerly employed by New England Telephone Company for 32 years until his retirement.
Mr. Travers served in the U.S. Navy during World War II participating in the Normandy Invasion. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Theater Ribbon with 2 Stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
He enjoyed fishing on the boat which he build. He was loved by the neighborhood kids for repairing their bikes and giving popsicles and Hoodsie cups.
Survivors include his 2 daughters, M. Patricia Lynam and her husband Gregory and Betty Lou Brightman and her husband Paul, all of Dartmouth; 3 grandchildren, Dennis Brightman, Kathy Normore and Christine Lynam Shread; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Irene Shread; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Travers, Jr., Leona Boivin and Elsie Rogers.
His visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 23rd from 4-7 PM in the from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His funeral service will be held on Thursday June 24th at 11 AM in the funeral home followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
