George R. Sateriale passed away at home on Tuesday morning, June 8th. He was 89. Born and raised in East Boston, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Olympia (Sacco) Sateriale. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served during the Korean War. After his military service he embarked on a long career in law enforcement. He served over 30 with the Registry Police and then served as a Trooper with the Massachusetts State Police, until his retirement. He and his wife Josephine settled in Medford in 1959, where they raised their family. For the past 20 years they enjoyed winters in Naples, Florida. George enjoyed carpentry and could build or fix anything. With typical “Yankee ingenuity” he built a wonderful summer cottage in Wolfeboro, NH which his family enjoyed for over 40 years. George enjoyed time with his family and friends and was also a great Bruins fan. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.
The beloved husband of Josephine B. (Bramante) Sateriale, George was a devoted father to Joanne E. (Sateriale) Padellaro and her husband Joseph J. of Princeton, and George R. Sateriale Jr. and his wife Holly of Holden. George was a proud and loving grandfather to Joseph J. Padellaro III and his wife Liza (Dorison). He was the dear brother of the late John, Lucille and Fred Sateriale. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
George’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday June14th at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 11: 30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family at the funeral home, Sunday 3-7 PM.
