Verna P. Cavan, 103

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Verna P. (Ellis) Cavan, age 103, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh A. Cavan, who died on December 31, 1989.

Born in Quincy, MA on May 2, 1918, she was a loving daughter of the late Frederick and Orilla (Porter) Ellis.

Mrs. Cavan retired from the Donald E. Ross Elementary School in Braintree, where she was employed as a secretary. After retiring, she moved to Wareham and worked at the Wareham Public Library. She later moved to Mansfield in 1987 and worked at the former Shepard’s Flowers in Mansfield and in the early 90’s at the Mansfield Public Library.

Verna was the official oldest resident of Mansfield and the proud recipient of the Boston Post Cane. She had a lifelong passion for reading which lasted right up till the time of her death. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her devoted children: Linda Rosselli of Mansfield, with whom she made her home, Roger E. Cavan and his wife Linda of Florence, South Carolina and David A. Cavan and his wife Linda of Hanson. She is also survived by her cherished 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and was the dear and special friend of the late Albert Mistreta.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a service, in celebration of her life, on Saturday July24th at 3:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
