Jacqueline, (“Jackie”) S. Sullivan passed away on Monday, May 31st, 2021 in Sleepy Hollow, New York after a brief illness. She was 101 years old.
Jacqueline was born on August 30, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY to Cornelius and Lillian (Landsman) Scully. She attended schools throughout New York City and began a career in retail very early in life. Her career brought her throughout the country. She lived in several states, eventually settling in Cambridge, MA in 1965 where she worked in personnel and recruiting for Filene’s in Boston. Her title upon retirement was Director of Personnel and Recruiting. Jacqueline was definitely ahead of her time, serving as an executive in the corporate world, long before it was commonplace for women to do so. She had a long and illustrious career.
Finally, the opportunity for personal happiness came about when she married Edward J. Sullivan, Clerk of the Superior Courts of Middlesex County, on September 30, 1972. They shared thirty five happy, adventurous years together, making trips around the country and the world. Jacqueline’s years with Edward and his wonderful family were the best of her life. Edward predeceased her on July 24, 2007.
Jacqueline also served the City of Cambridge as well. She spent many years on the Cambridge Redevelopment Committee, seeing to it that the city made the best use of its property while ensuring there was long term benefit to Cambridge as well.
Jacqueline is survived by a niece, Patrice Scully-Murray and her husband Tom Murray of Ossining, NY, a nephew, Erik Scully of Abingdon MD and a niece Constance Montague of Deerfield Beach FL. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews on her husband’s side, most notably, Ann Martelo and James Lynch, who cared for and supported her during her final years in Cambridge. Jacqueline is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Paul Scully and her sister in law Louetta Scully.
Jacqueline always considered Cambridge her home, as it was the place where she spent the greatest part of her life. She was loved, respected and will be missed by all who knew her.
