Troy Love was a teenager who loved video games and dreamt of joining the military someday.
But the 14-year-old’s life was cut short Friday during a tragic incident at Green Hill Park in Worcester.
Love, who is from Virginia and was on vacation in Worcester with his mom and three siblings, tried swimming in the pond but started to struggle.
Family members and Worcester police officers, including Enmanuel “Manny” Familia, went into the water to try and save Love. While officers were able to help two individuals out of the pond, Familia and Love were submerged under the water.
Divers brought Familia to shore at 2:28 p.m. Love was found at 3:25 p.m. Both were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Love’s aunt set up a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost of memorial services. As of Saturday afternoon, the page has raised $1,550 raised of a $10,000 goal.
“Troy was a great young man, talked about [wanting] to join the military when he was able to, he loved video gaming and hanging out with his older brother,” the page reads. “His best friend was his cousin Brian. Our family thanks you.”
