Obituary

Warren J Roderick, 72, of Truro passed away at his home on May 27, 2021. He was born on October 31, 1948 in Hyannis, MA and was the son of the late Warren and Marjorie Roderick of North Truro.

Growing up and residing in Provincetown for a majority of his life, Warren had deep roots in the gas station community working with his father and then establishing his own car dealership and automotive station, Pamet Mobil Center. A lifelong car enthusiast, Warren delighted in researching and discussing vehicles new and old, a devoted subscriber to Hemmings magazine and always receiving multiple car calendars on Christmas morning.

Upon selling his gas station, he moved on to be the Truro Harbormaster for several years. Known for his interesting stories and sharp wit, Warren always reveled in challenging riddles and tests of the mind. He often impressed those with his ability to recite the Presidents backwards and other mathematical puzzles. A fan of talk radio he possessed a breadth of knowledge on current events and political viewpoints.

Above all, Warren was deeply proud of his children and grand-children. He applauded, encouraged and celebrated their accomplishments from little league softball games to high school musicals, to college graduations and career achievements.

A brilliant mind enlightened by life’s joys yet weathered by many of life’s storms, his daughter’s find this quote, from a John Denver song, that he often played, greatly reflects his spirit:

‘Now the face that I see in my mirror
More and more is a stranger to me
More and more I can see there's a danger
In becoming what I never thought I'd be
Some days are diamonds, some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds, some days are stones.’

Warren is survived by the mother of his children, Christine Roderick of North Truro as well as his three daughters and their spouses: Heather and Stephen Harper of North Truro, Jan and Fran Taylor of Watertown, MA and Elena and Bobby Rice of Truro. He was blessed with many grandchildren: Arianna and her husband Josh Mayo, Brendon Kaplan of La Habra, CA, Brett and Bubba Kaplan of Eastham, MA; Brady, Merrick and Beckett Rice of Truro and a great-grandchild Kaia Mayo. Warren is also survived by his sister Marjorie Childs of North Truro and her husband the late Leo “Skip” Childs and his sister Elaine Brownell and her husband Larry Brownell of North Truro. Warren, coming from a large family, also is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
