Demetre J. Karamanos, 78, of Worcester, died Monday, May 31st at home with his family at his side. His wife, Evangelia (Volis) Karamanos died in 2018. He is survived by his son, John D. Karamanos and his daughter, Katerina (Karamanos) Kent and her husband, Brian all of Worcester; two sisters, Demetra Starfas of Worcester and Corinth, Greece and Constantina Rokanas of Limnes, Argolidos, Greece and four grandchildren, Caitlin, Jamie, Demetre and Connor and a great-grandson, Dean as well as several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Anastasios and Georgios Karamanos.
He was born March 28, 1943 in Limnes, Argolidos, Greece the son of Ioannis and Katerina (Kakouros) Karamanos; and had served in the Greek Army. After leaving Greece in 1970 he settled in Craig, CO and came to Worcester in 1978. While in Colorado Demetre had been employed by the Department of Public Works and later owned and operated a convenience store In Worcester for many years before retiring. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and enjoyed traveling to New Mexico, California, Colorado and Washington as well as returning to Greece periodically. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.
His funeral is Thursday, June 3rd from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 the morning of the funeral in the funeral home. Please omit flowers and make memorial contributions to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
