Obituary

Lawrence A. Harney, Jr., 91, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2021.
He was the husband of the late Mary Paula (Glennon) Harney.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Lawrence A. and Margaret E. (Doucette) Harney, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Larry was a truck driver for Milhench and Baarder North American for many years until retirement. In retirement he drove for Laidlaw. Larry was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Moby Dick Council where he received the Silver Beaver and the Golden Arrow awards, and was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick where he received the Man of the Year award. He volunteered many hours at Camp Cachalot.
Larry served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his children, Lawrence A. Harney III, and Kevin P. Harney, both of New Bedford and Alice M. Faria of Dartmouth; his son-in-law, George A. Faria; his siblings, Patricia Smith of Florida, Margaret "Kevy" Riendeau of New Bedford, Mary Jo Feresten and Frances Baldwin of Pennsylvania; a grandson, Alexander Faria; and several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday June 4th from 4-7 PM.
