Olavo P. Ramos, 94, of New Bedford died May 30, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of the late Iracema P. (Pires) Ramos.
Mr. Ramos was formerly employed by Tichon Seafood for several years.
He was the patriarch of the Ramos family. Mr. Ramos enjoyed farming, playing the harmonica, dancing and his tobacco.
Survivors include his 12 children, Nelson Ramos and his wife Soteira, Augusta Fontes, Orlando Ramos and his wife Julia, Manuel Pires and his wife Maria, Maria D. Pires and her husband Joao, Maria Zinha Gonsalves and her husband Manuel, Amelia Ramos and her husband Joao Andrade, Angela Ribeiro and her husband Luizenho, all of New Bedford, Maria DaCruz Pires of Portugal, John Ramos and his wife Anna of Acushnet, Bernardo Silva and his wife Sonya of Boston and Alcides Silva of Cape Verde; 2 sisters, Patina Batista and Alena Batista, both of Boston; 45 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Isabel Ramos and Manuel Ramos, father-in-law of the late Tiago Fontes, grandfather of the late Joel Pires, Edson Ramos, Thalia Ramos and Nevaeh Ramos, the great-grandfather of the late Jayce Ramos and the brother of the late Jaime Batista, Tu Tu Batista, Mario Batista, Pepeta DePina, Manuel "Nhone" DePina, Olivia DePina Almeida, Nha Tonia Batista and Tio Dorico Batista.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, June 4th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM.
