Obituary

Francis E. Santosuosso “Frank” 5/25/1932 - 5/28/2021, passed peacefully at his home in Winchester, surrounded by his family.

Born in Somerville, and raised in Medford, to the late Francesco and Stella (Lucca) Santosuosso. Brother of the late Daniel Santosuosso. Leaves his beloved wife Anna Jane (Keefe) Santosuosso of 55 years, his son Frank of Shrewsbury, daughter in-law Joyce McIntyre, and cherished grandson Francis, as well as nieces Linda Lahey, Nancy O’Brien, nephew Daniel Santosuosso, and their families.

Frank was proud to have the first issued shoe shine license in Medford as a kid. He was a gifted pianist, playing since early childhood, and auditioned at Chavalier Hall and the Boston Garden.

He attended Tufts College, graduating in 1953 with a chemistry major, and later earned a Masters in education.
During college he discovered his passion for the sea, and was employed for the Wilson Line and worked his way up the ranks to Chief Purser on the Boston Bell’s service to Provincetown throughout the 1950s.

He briefly worked as a draftsman for Pratt and Whitney, before he began his long teaching career in Boston, including work in the assignment unit’s office for desegregation. He served two terms on the Medford School Committee. As math and science department head at numerous Boston schools, he passionately encouraged students' participation in the city and state science fairs, often taking his young son along to observe.

Following his love for the ocean and boating, he and Jane first began sailing in 1967, and he was a life member at the Winthrop Yacht Club. He maintained a near coastal captain’s license, an interest in amateur radio, and would always challenge himself mechanically, whether a car, snowmobile, grandfather’s clock, or plumbing project. With a love for life and a tender heart, he touched many lives.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, June 4th, from 10-11AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 11:30AM. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
