Dorothy (Dot) Louisa (Friedline) Carey, 100, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Kaplan Family Hospital House in Danvers, with her family by her side, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Allan D. Carey of Peabody. Born in Lynn, May 11, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. Friedline and Beatrice M. (Keating) Friedline. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family. Eating was one of Dot’s favorite pastimes, and she dined out regularly enjoying her nachos at Sylvan Street Grille, and breakfast at Irontown Diner up to and including her 100th birthday.
Dot attended schools in Camden, NJ and Lynn, graduating from Lynn Classical High School. Her first employment was as a seamstress, and she also worked in a Beano establishment in Lynn. She later worked many years for Sylvania, Loring Avenue, Salem in various departments, where she developed many dear friendships. She also met her husband, Allan at Sylvania.
Dot was a former Girl Scout leader. Along with her husband, she was a youth leader at the former Lake Shore Park United Methodist Church of Lynn. Dot, Allan, and their daughter Cheryl did volunteer work for the radio program, Songtime Christian Ministries. Dot had a special rapport with young people, and she loved them dearly. Dot enjoyed both day trips and extended vacations with her family. Among her favorite destinations were the Steel Pier, the Boardwalk, and the Miss America Pageant in the old Atlantic City, NJ, the Amish country in PA, and more recently, Disney World. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren was one of her greatest pleasures.
Dot is survived by her two children, a son, Charles A. (Chuck) Carey and his wife Jane of Lakewood Ranch, FL and a daughter, Cheryl B. Carey of Peabody with whom she resided; two grandchildren Andrew (Andy) Carey and his wife Melissa of Van Nuys, CA, and Jill (Carey) Wilkins, and two great- grandchildren, Lily and Ivy Wilkins all of Lakewood Ranch, FL and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles (Brud) Friedline, and her sisters Mabelle (Friedline) Doughty and Viola (Friedline)(Drew) DeVito. Dot’s family would like to thank her many caregivers who supported Dot and her family during her last months.
