Obituary

John R. (Jack) Schnyer, 75 of West Yarmouth MA, died unexpectedly on May 28, 2021 at Cape Cod Hospital. Born in Brockton, MA in 1946, he was the second son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Schnyer.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in 1970 and his master’s degree from Anna Maria College in 1981. Jack proudly served as Chief of Police for the town of Whitman for 20 of his 36 years on the force. He was the active Secretary/Treasurer for the Plymouth County Police Chiefs Association for over the past 30 years.

Jack was the husband of Debra (Roberts) Schnyer for 40 years. He leaves behind a son, Kevin, and his wife Caitlin and a daughter Hillary and her husband Anthony. He was the most loving Papa to his four grandchildren, Henry John, George Richard, Celia Rose and Teagan Mae. He loved playing doctor, building forts, checking out his “putt-putt” cars, doing Model A puzzles, and simply spending time with them.

He leaves one sister, Mary Riddle; and three brothers and their spouses, Richard and Judy Schnyer, William and Deborah Schnyer, David Schnyer and Raymond Burton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Martin and Gary.

Retired in 2005, Jack loved listening to the Irish Hit Parade, collecting license plates, Saturday trips to Heidi’s ice cream for “FGDs,” breakfast at Martin’s, coffee time with his Honey Dew crew, traveling with his Model A, and babysitting his grandchildren with Debbie. He belonged to the Cape Cod Model A Club, holding the office of Secretary. He also belonged to the Model A Restorers Club of Massachusetts (MARCOM) and South Shore Antique Auto Club for many years. He would give a helping hand to anyone in need and was considered a friend to many.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday June 6 from 2:00-6:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ rotary) Whitman and his funeral on Monday June 7 at 8:15 AM from the Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Saint James Cemetery.
