Robert F. Fain, 91, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Frank Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, Georgia, with Elder Edward McIntyre officiating and Warren Mixon delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery, in Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
Mr. Fain was born January 27, 1930, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Clarence & Mattie Griner Fain. He graduated from Irwin County High School and lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Fain was a farmer and raised cattle working with his cousin, Bill Hawes for many years. He treated his livestock like pets and they loved to see him. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and enjoyed dove shoots. Mr. Fain was a kind and gentle spirit. He enjoyed eating on Friday nights with his brother-in-law, Cecil Rigdon. He will be remembered for his Brunswick stew. He was a member and deacon of Frank Primitive Baptist Church where he was known as the bubblegum man.
He is survived by his two daughters: Lisa & Warren Mixon and Catherine & Mike Sirmans, all of Ocilla; grandchildren: Rob Mixon, Ben & Therese Mixon, Lea & Todd Pate, Blake & Stephanie Sirmans, Clayton & Jessica Sirmans; great-grandchildren: Hayden Mixon, Destin Mixon, Fisher Mixon, Sailor Mixon, Fain Pate, Dawson Mixon, Nevaeh Sirmans, Leah Jane Sirmans, Whit Sirmans, Corbin Pate, Allyn Sirmans, Maebry Pate and Brynlee Pate; and a sister, Linda Nell Davis of Perry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Laura Freeman Fain and a brother, Charles Aldene Fain and a grandson, Harry Russell “Russ” Mixon.
