Ricardo "Rico" Viana, 45, of New Bedford passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Maria (Fernandes) Viana and Manuel Viana, he lived in New Bedford his entire life.
Despite being a die-hard Cowboys fan, Rico was a solid guy who was loved and respected by an overwhelming number of people, especially his Hazard family. He wasn't afraid to let you know what was on his mind and would repeat it multiple times. His children were his reason for living and his heart absolutely belonged to his grandchildren. Rico enjoyed hanging out with all his friends at his favorite spots, Legends and Town Crier.
Ricardo is survived by his heart-broken mother, Maria Viana (Nana) of New Bedford; his father, Manuel Viana of New Bedford; his son, Ricardo Viana, Jr. and his wife Natalia of Orlando, FL; his son, Domenick Viana of New Bedford; his daughter, Janessa Viana of New Bedford; his daughter, Skylar Souza of Rochester; two grandchildren, Aniya Viana and Ricardo Viana, III; his sister, Susana Mattos and her husband Joseph of New Bedford; his sister, Sonia Tavares and her husband Richard of Fairhaven; and four nieces and nephews, Colin Mattos, Chloe Mattos, Livia Tavares, and Julion Tavares.
His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 31, 2021 from 4-7 PM. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
