Obituary

HOLLIS- Mary S. Sanborn, age 73, passed away on May 26, 2021 at Maine Medical Center after an eight and a half year courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer and side effects of chemotherapy.

She was born in Saco, Maine on October 16, 1947 during the "Fire of '47". She was the daughter of Raymond and Delma(Knight) Smith.

After graduating from Sanford High School in 1965, Mary went on to Plus Gray's School of Business in Portland.

Soon after High School, Mary met her husband of nearly 53 years at Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. She and David were married on June 15, 1968. For many years she babysat children of nearby relatives and neighbors while raising her two children. She also worked at the "Bean Factory" in South Waterboro, Maine, Your Country Store in Hollis, Maine, and the Sears, Roebuck Company in the Collections Department in Portland.

More recently, Mary's employment included being an Educational Technician at both Hollis Elementary School in Hollis and at Bonny Eagle High School in Standish. Mary also was a talented Floral Designer and worked for Buttertown Florist in Hollis and Maine Street Florist in Buxton, earning her Maine State Certification in her 60s.

She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Sunshine Society of Hollis for many years where she helped make quilts for the needy.

She was an avid Nascar fan and sported her 3 and 88 proudly. She also was a gifted quilter, crocheter, and mostly, a loving NANA.

She is predeceased by a sister - Pamela S. Orcutt of Waterboro.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband- David of Hollis; her children- Jennifer R. (Sanborn) Pinkham and her husband Andy of Hollis, and Jonathan D. Sanborn and his fiance' Chrissy Neilsen of Hollis; sister- Gail R. (Smith) Woodsome of North Waterboro; four grandchildren- Haley Pinkham of North Waterboro, Connor Pinkham of Hollis, Nicole Sanborn of Hollis, and Morgan Smith of Buxton.

A private graveside ceremony will be held amongst her family at Meeting House Hill Cemetery in Hollis, Maine. A celebration of Mary's Life will be held later in the fall, her favorite season. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com.

Their many years of caring and support were second to none.

Also, the family would like to recognize the 6th floor ICU Team at MMC, especially Resident Dr. Victoria Scavo. Their respect, care, and attention to Mary and our family during these last two weeks were nothing short of amazing. They are true heroes.
