Porter - Vera J. Monroe, 74, of Porter, died peacefully on My 22, 2021 with her daughter and granddaughter by her side at Bella Point in Fryeburg. She was born on July 19, 1946 to Clayton Ezra and Mary Ellen (Whitten) Eastman. She was one of fourteen children. Vera attended local schools and later in life she earned her diploma.
She worked at the Limerick Shoe Shop in her younger years. She married the love of her life, James A. Monroe on June 17, 1967. They made their home in Porter where they raised their three children. Vera was a homemaker for many years. She later worked at the Kezar Falls Woolen Mill until her retirement.
Mom enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening (she had the most beautiful peonies), crocheting and crafts of all kinds. She loved attending sports activities for her children and grandchildren and above all spending all her free time with her family.
She, as well as James, were members of the Hilltop Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and attending the Ladies Breakfast Club.
She is predeceased by her parents, recently her husband, James A. Monroe, her only son, James "Jamie" Monroe, a son-in-law, Michael "Mick" Mayo Jr., sisters: Rebecca Gammon, Marie Stinson, Bertha Guptil, Judith Verrill and Roberta Murch. And brothers Willis Eastman and Alfred Eastman Sr.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Mayo, granddaughters: Jodi Monroe, Morgan Monroe and Darci Monroe. Great grandchildren: Leah MacDonald, Haley St. Pierre and Wyatt Harmon. Sisters: Norma Chapman, Molissia Stinson and Celia (Adelbert) Harrington. Brothers: Reginald (Yvonne) Eastman, Clayton E. (Patricia) Eastman and Herbert P. (Nancy) Eastman, with whom she was especially close, several nieces and nephews and her daughter, Roz Bachelder.
A special thank you to the Beacon Hospice team. You are all angels. Also a huge thank you to Uncle Herb and Aunt Nancy, Aunt Celia and Uncle Delbert, and my cousin Jackie for your many visits to Mom. And my cousin Nora for making Mom those yummy goodies. She truly enjoyed everything.
