Matthew R. Merrick
“Born With A Heart Of Gold”
TEWKSBURY: Matthew R. Merrick, age 22, recently of Lowell, passed away tragically at the Lowell General Hospital on Sunday, May 16, 2021, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Born in Lowell on January 2, 1999, he was the beloved son of Richard J. and Christine M. (O’Keefe) Merrick, and younger brother of Richard J. Merrick, all of Tewksbury.
Matt was raised in Tewksbury and lived in town until moving to Lowell in 2019.
He attended Tewksbury schools, and graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in 2017.
Matt was currently employed as an HVAC Technician for Taylor & Son, HVAC, Inc. of Andover, where he worked the past few years.
He was a fearless, live life to the fullest, and charismatic young man. His outgoing personality could light up any room, and was the “favorite unofficial uncle to the children of many of his friends”.
Matt loved tinkering, working on, and riding anything with wheels and a motor.
Besides his parents and brother, family members include, his paternal grandparents, Richard F. Merrick and his late wife Dorothy A. (O’Leary) Merrick of Tewksbury; his maternal grandparents, James F. O’Keefe and his late wife Marjorie A. (Cronin) O’Keefe; his girlfriend, Julya Boudreau of Nashua, NH; his aunts and uncles, Stephen J. Merrick and his wife Bonnie of Dracut, Robert M. Merrick and his wife Michelle of Dracut, Kathy Lawton of Nashua, NH, Patricia Barnes and her late husband William of Tewksbury, Stephen O’Keefe and his wife Brenda of Lowell, Julie Richter and her husband Bob of Billerica, John O’Keefe and his wife Kate of Fayetteville, NC, and Lynne O’Keefe of Seattle, WA; also many cousins, his lifelong friend, Freddy Keenan, and numerous extended family members and friends.
Calling hours are Sunday, May 23, from 3-6 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury on Monday, May 24, at 11:30 a.m. for his Funeral Mass. Masks, social distancing, and gathering limitations are necessary in the funeral home and church. (Church limited to 150 attendees). Services will conclude at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury. At the request of the family, please Omit Flowers.
