Sylvia M. McGillen, 94 of Derry, NH, died Monday, March 27, 2006 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. Mrs. McGillen was born in Derry on July 14, 1911, a daughter of the late Ivory and May Belle (Whitehouse) Tuttle. She was a lifelong resident of Derry. Mrs. McGillen attended Pinkerton Academy in Derry. She was a member of and played the organ at St. Matthews United Methodist Church of Sandown and East Hampstead Union Church. She belonged to the 65+ Club of Sandown. She worked for Klev-Bros Shoe Co. in Derry for many years and was active in the union. She was loved by all and did so much for so many.
She is survived by two sons, John McGillen of Derry, Richard McGillen and his wife Edith of Derry, nine grandchildren, Kathy and Mark McGillen of Manchester, NH, Heidi and Michael Tanner of Dunstable, NH, Trisha and Brian Chirichiello of Derry, Michael and Vaughn McGillen of Auburn, NH, Karen McGillen of Manchester, Sherri McGillen of Indiana, Kim and Chris Spanos of Derry, Chris and Richard Camare of Manchester, Julie Gallien of Candia, NH, 13 great grandchildren and one niece, Joane Davis of North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband Edward J. McGillen in 1989.
Following cremation, the family will hold private memorial services. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling arrangements.
