Lawrence "Larry" Martin Schack died peacefully on May 13, 2021 in Boston, MA following a year long, courageous battle with late stage pancreatic cancer.
Larry was born in the Bronx, New York at St Francis Hospital on November 3, 1942. He and his family ultimately settled in Fort Lauderdale, FL where he graduated from Pompano Beach High School in 1960. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the Air Force, where he served as a Fuel Specialist.
Following an honorable discharge in 1965, Larry began a long career in hospitality, where he worked as a bartender and manager for a number of restaurants in Fort Lauderdale including the Cat's Meow, Café Riviera, La Veranda, the Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club and Coral Ridge Yacht Club, and a number of local and a regional management positions for Specialty Restaurants. During his working years he enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, watching the Miami Dolphins and cooking Italian meals for his family. He retired in 2015.
He and Mary Schack were married on August 14, 1967. After nearly 40 years of marriage the two divorced but remained lifelong partners and true companions. They had one son, Lawrence "Larry" Leonard Schack, who was the delight of Larry's life. Larry has one sister, Angela Schack as well as a nephew Richard Kirsch and a niece Camilla Davis. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Angelina and Martin Schack.
Larry is survived by Mary Schack, and his son Larry Schack along with his daughter in law Katherine (Katie) Shaw, who together have 5 beautiful children. Larry was fortunate to spend the last year living with his son and family at their home in Wellesley, MA. When he wasn't napping by the fireplace, he enjoyed going to soccer games, swimming in the pool, going for walks, working out in the gym, watching lots of sports and special popcorn movie nights in the theater, and sharing many wonderful meals together with his family, until his short period of hospitalization before death.
Private funeral services will be held in Wellesley, MA. An additional service will be held in Fort Lauderdale, FL at a later date.
