Billie Jo (Slacum) Weiss, age 55, of Boston, Massachusetts passed away on May 11, 2021, after a 14-year battle with colon cancer. She was in her home and surrounded by those she loved.
Billie Jo was born in April 1966 in Dover, Delaware. She attended Jennie E. Smith Elementary and Glasgow and Middletown High Schools before earning a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Delaware and a master’s in business administration from Simmons College. She was married to her husband, Kevin, for 33 years.
After working in banking, insurance, and public relations, she left the corporate world to focus on raising her two girls. She was active in school and community groups, always the first to volunteer for a variety of roles and leadership positions to raise money and support the Josiah Quincy and John D. O’Bryant public schools.
Billie Jo founded a team, affectionately named BJ’s Rumpus Runners, that annually raised money for colon cancer research. She was an active supporter of Camp Kesem, an organization providing year-round support for children with family members battling cancer, and a lifetime member of Delaware’s Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Unit 1.
Online, Billie Jo was a 17-year moderator and key emotional support leader for women dealing with health, pregnancy, and family issues. She loved traveling and camping and was a lifelong Girl Scout and Troop Leader. She also loved to cook, and eagerly gave her best attempt at any dish her family asked her to make.
Billie Jo is survived by her husband, Kevin, of Boston, two loving daughters, Ava and Fallon, her mother Betty Slacum, of Smyrna, Delaware, and her always-present cat Bruno. She was preceded in death by her father, William Slacum of Townsend, Delaware.
Visitation will be held at Casper Funeral Services on Sunday, May 16, 2021, from 2-4 PM. A private burial service for family and close friends will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery the following day.
