Joan A. Clougherty, 90, of Whitman, MA passed away peacefully at home on May 7.
Born in Boston, MA in 1930 to Albert and Mary Kate Clifford, Joan graduated from St. Augustine’s High School in South Boston, MA and went on to work for New England Telephone for over 30 years. Joan was also a long-time member of the Telephone Pioneer’s.
Joan was the loving wife and best friend to the late Martin J. Clougherty for over 60 years, and devoted mother to her 7 adoring children Joyce and (the late) John Loughrey of Quincy, Martin and Kathleen of Rockland, Eileen and Stephen O’Grady of West Roxbury, Jo-Ann and Michael O’Keefe of Halifax, (the late) Kathleen Clougherty, John and Jane of Marshfield and Maryann Clougherty of Bridgewater.
Joan was the most affectionate Nana and was deeply beloved by her 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A devout Catholic her entire life, and faithful parishioner of the Holy Ghost Church, Joan’s joy was to be surrounded by her family, creating wonderful memories which will be cherished forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 11 from 4 to 7 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, MA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 12 at 9 AM at Holy Ghost Church, Whitman, MA with a Catholic burial following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
