Obituary

Marylou (Dalton) Cournoyer, age 91, a resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 6, 2021. She was the beloved wife for 68 years of Gerald A. Cournoyer. Born in the family home on Richardson St. in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Hazel Mae (Gunn) Dalton. She was raised and educated in Winchester and graduated from Winchester High School. Upon graduation, Marylou went to work at Schrafft’s Candy in Charlestown and worked there until she married Gerry and began a family. Gerry remembered how she always thoughtfully brought him “shoeboxes” full of ‘seconds” candy when they were dating, and he would share it with his Navy shipmates.
A devoted mother, Marylou raised their 9 children while Gerry was often out to sea with the Navy. She enjoyed going to all of the children’s events, dance recitals, school plays and many birthday and graduation parties. She loved spending time with all family - no matter what occasion, she was there. In her spare time, Marylou loved vacationing in Rockport, visiting her sister in Arizona and her son Keven in Florida. She also loved to go shopping at Macy’s where everyone knew her name!
Her children remembered her love and devotion and how she had a unique and loving relationship with each one of them. Her beautiful smile would light up a room. Their father was an amazing caregiver who stood by her side throughout her illness and remained loyal until her passing.
In addition to her husband Gerry, Marylou leaves behind her children: Linda Bissett of Woburn, Wendy Cohen (Jeff) of Wilmington, Jane Mulrenan (John) of Wilmington, Mark Cournoyer (Rosemary) of ME, Timothy Cournoyer of VT, Keven Cournoyer (Sandy) of Florida, and Stephen Cournoyer (Lisa) of Wilmington. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Cournoyer, a daughter, Debra Prentiss, and infant son David Cournoyer. She was a dear sister of Elizabeth “Betty” Blackey (late Frank) of Bow, NH, and the late Eleanor Boermeester (late Connie) of Woburn, and the late Ann Marshall (late Jack) of Arizona, and the late David and Andrew Dalton of Winchester. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Brian, Kristina, Brittany, Meghan, Jack, Katelyn, Michael, Matthew, Keven, Ryan, Abby, Haley, and 6 great-grandchildren: Emma, Layla, Nicholas, David, Myracle and Christian.
