Obituary

Mary E. Nathan of Easton formerly of Brockton, died Monday May 3, 2021 at her home after a long and well lived life. She was born and raised in Brockton, the only child of the late Mary (Manion) Nathan and Joseph Nathan ret. BPD.

Mary took great pride in the fact that she was educated in St. Patrick’s Brockton school. Mary earned a full scholarship to a college in Kentucky in 1941 but decided to stay home to support her parents who supported her so greatly. Mary had a 48 year career working at New England Telephone and retired in 1985 as assistant staff manager. While she was working, at age 58, she went back to school and earned her bachelor degree from Stonehill College in Psychology and Behavioral Science. She was a proud Alumnus and longtime supporter of Stonehill College.

Mary loved growing up in Brockton and discovering its history. Throughout her life, Mary wanted to learn something new every day. She was an independent woman and a handy fixer upper. She enjoyed doing numerous crafts, such as intricate wreath making and learned the art of cane backing chairs. She also enjoyed dancing, especially line dancing.

Mary frequented both the Brockton Council on Aging and the Easton Council on Aging where she participated in activities and many day trips. Mary was also an avid world traveler and prided herself on saying she was everywhere but the ‘Iron Curtain’ and Scotland.

Mary was a longtime Parishioner of Holy Cross Church in So. Easton. She was an active member of the parish and served on several ministries over the years. She especially enjoyed working on the annual Holly Fair in the past and marveled at how the event grew over the years. Mary had a profound faith and would frequently discuss how she talked to God and the Saints as her very best of friends. Prayer was an integral part of Mary’s life. Mary lived Cursillo in 1980 at the Holy Cross Retreat house. She enjoyed serving at Matt Talbot Retreats when she was able.

Mary was a supporter of many organizations including My Brothers Keeper, Stonehill College, Boystown, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital to name just a few.
Mary leaves behind a close circle of friends that will never forget her. She was grateful to her caregivers in her final days.

Mary loved attending weekday Masses at St. Mary’s Chapel on the Stonehill Campus. A funeral Mass will celebrated May 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM in The Chapel of Mary at Stonehill College, 320 Washington, St., Easton. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Brockton.
