CHICOPEE – Robert W. “Bob” Friedrich, 89, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on November 9, 1931, a beloved son of the late George W. and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Halley) Friedrich. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School and had moved to Chicopee in 1954 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Sergeant. He received the Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was employed as a Court Officer for the Hampden County Courthouse in Springfield. Previously, he had worked as a baker for the Wonder Bread Company in Holyoke. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He most especially loved spending his time with his canine companions, his late Schnauzers, Penny, Muffin, and Cricket. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Marilyn R. (Moatz) Friedrich. They were married at Holy Family Church in Flushing, Long Island, NY on September 4, 1954 and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving sons, Wayne M. Friedrich and his wife, Penny, of West Springfield, Mark A. Friedrich and his wife, Carol, of Feeding Hills, Glenn D. Friedrich and his wife, Debbie, of Longmeadow, and Craig R. Friedrich and his wife, Kimberly, of Chicopee; his eight cherished grandchildren, Riley Friedrich, Alex Friedrich and his partner, Erica Diaz, Jessie Campana and her husband, Brian, Danielle Ivenz and her husband, Greg, Andrew Friedrich, Matthew Friedrich, Jeremy Friedrich and his fiancée, Hailey Chapdelaine, and Connor Friedrich and his girlfriend, Emily Mastroianni; his cherished great granddaughter, Charlie Ivenz; his devoted niece, Carol Reynolds of Chicopee; and his many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ben Friedrich; and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean Seery and her husband, Jerry. His Committal Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will be private for his family at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
