Obituary

Georgette (Dupre) Bonneau, 93, of Acushnet, Massachusetts died peacefully on May 4, 2021.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Marie Ann (LeClaire) Dupre and Joseph Edward Dupre Sr. and sister to the late Joseph E. Dupre, Jr., Robert G. Dupre Sr. and Ernest "Pal" Dupre. She had been married to the late Raymond "Snapper" Bonneau for over twenty five years.
After graduating from New Bedford High School, "Gette" worked at John I. Paulding plant on King's Highway. She was very involved with the VFW, keeping up correspondences with overseas soldiers and even becoming a chaplain at one point. Along with a group of fellow volunteers, Gerogette would visit veteran hospitals and centers to play cards and even dance with them. Once she retired, her patriotism lead her to spend even more time at the VFWs in the area, volunteering her time and serving meals.
Growing up on Church Street in New Bedford with her three brothers and parents, Georgette enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout when she was younger and was trusted as the "timer" for her father's pigeon races for many years. Gette was also an amazing dancer and taught her younger brothers how to dance so they could keep up at the Lincoln Park ballroom. After Georgette married Ray, they lived on Hathaway Road in Acushnet. The property there was a playful mecca for her nieces and nephews, offering a country-like environment to run and romp to their hearts content. From pony rides to all you can eat Hoodsie cups, this was the place to be. Georgette was proud to host many holidays on Hathaway Road, showing off her culinary skills for her extended family. Even after others took over hosting, Gette's deviled eggs and sweet ham were always in demand. To this day no one can truly replicate that damn ham. Georgette was the only woman allowed at the annual Dupre Construction Christmas Eve afternoon shop party not only because all of the men loved her, but also because she always brought her famous favas and pickled onions. And Christmas wasn't complete with "Gette's Java Juice" - her homemade coffee liqueur. Georgette was also known for her wonderful gift totes. Every bride or mother to be would receive a big plastic tote filled to the brim with all the essentials to start that next chapter in her life. From jar grip openers to jars of baby food, those totes were amazing.
A true lover of animals, Georgette refused to use the cow Ray bought one year and raised for meat, but instead painted the barn to match the house and named her Clarabell! The family enjoyed Clarabell's company for many years. Georgette's beloved beagles were her constant companions over the years (we all remember her extensive Snoopy memorabilia collection!), teaching one to howl happy birthday. Fort Phoenix was her favorite spot to walk her pups. Georgette enjoyed the time she spent with her many nieces and nephews, especially Tommy and Bobby Dupre, and Jeanne Rapoza - but we all knew Tommy was her absolute favorite. She adored him and he doted on her. God rest them both. Her laughter, her (sometimes) racy sense of humor and her beautiful blue eyes will be greatly missed.
Her visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 20th from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
