David Abram Hobbs, 64, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester. He leaves his three children, son, Charlie Hobbs, and his fiancé, Cassandra Holroyd, and his granddaughter, Audrey, who was the light of Dave’s life; daughter, Katherine Hobbs, and son, Billy Hobbs all of Barre. He also leaves a brother, Robert Hobbs, and his wife, Lori Sax; a sister, Sandra and her husband, John Fritscher; a niece, Elizabeth and her husband, Patrick Baron; three nephews, Scott Fritscher and his wife, Kristi, Matthew Fritscher, and Steven Fritscher and his wife, Kim and several cousins in Newfoundland, Canada.
He was born in Holden the son of the late Abram Samuel and Meta Wheeler Hobbs. David was a graduate of Wachusett High School, Holden, Franklin Institute, Boston, and Fitchburg State University. Early in his career, he worked at Luddy Chevrolet as an ASE Certified Master Technician. He was known in the automotive industry as the “go-to-guy” for any complicated, unusual problems. Dave could fix anything! He then taught for 18 years at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School in Fitchburg, where he was a beloved mentor to many students and a well-respected staff member.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman and member of the Barre Sportsman’s Club. He loved deep-sea fishing and fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir as well as hunting with his two sons and friends. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his legendary stories, his generosity, and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone that needed it, and his deep-fried turkeys!
His visitation will be held on Friday, May 14th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date at the Barre Sportsman’s Club. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 Fifth Avenue, Waltham, Massachusetts 02451.
