Maria Madalena Correia, 53, of New Bedford passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
Born in Praia, Cape Verde, daughter of Hirondina Tavares Semedo and the late Joaquim A. Correia, she moved to New Bedford in 1989.
Maria was a devout catholic, and a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. She loved to cook, party, listen to music and spend time with her grandkids. She will be remembered as a fashionista.
Survivors include her mother; her daughters, Luisa Correia of New Bedford, Carla Fernandes and her spouse Lino of Pawtucket, RI, and Carmen Gomes of New Bedford; several siblings; her grandchildren, Mariah, Miley, Mila, Liandro, Myani, and Mateo; and many other relatives.
Her visitation will be Friday, May 7th from 5-8PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Home, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her funeral will be held Saturday, May 8th at 8AM, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9AM. Her burial follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, there may be a wait outside the funeral home, as well as a 55 person limit at the church.
