Obituary

Ioanna (Staikos) Raptis, 91, of Worcester, died Tuesday, May 4th in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband of 43 years, George Raptis died in 1990. She is survived by her son, Constantine Raptis and his wife, Rosemarie of Worcester; two daughters, Georgia Voyiatzis and her husband, Theodosios of Holden and Barbara Vogiatzis and her husband, John of North Carolina; ten grandchildren, George, Joanna, Stephen, Matthew, Joanna, Sofia, Georgia, Eleni, Anastasios and George and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Vasilios Raptis; two brothers, Dimitrios and John Staikos and her grandson Dimitrios Voyiatzis.

She was born in Serres, Hrisohorafa, Greece the daughter of Vasilios and Kyrikia (Solakidis) Staikos and came to Worcester with her family in 1973. Mrs. Raptis had worked as a seamstress for Roma Specialties before retiring. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton, Alexander The Great. Mrs. Raptis will be remembered for her love of storytelling, her cooking, gardening but most of all as a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Trinity Nursing Home for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Ioanna.

Her funeral is Thursday, May 6th with her service at 10:30 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of the service at the Cathedral on Thursday. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
