Robert “Bob” Eric Burns, of Billerica, formerly of Woburn, passed away on Wednesday, April 28th. He was 57. Born in Malden, he was the son of the late Robert A. and Margaret T. (McGaffigan) Burns. Known to many as “Coach Bob”, he had a heart full of compassion. He absolutely loved helping children, which was one of the reasons that helped him become a successful coach of the Woburn Youth Soccer League for many years, particularly the Girls U-16-1 Team. He instilled in his players integrity, discipline and the importance of sportsmanship, which led them to winning several tournaments and the state championship in 2018.
When Bob was not coaching, you could find him in his living room reading a great book, catching up on politics or watching his all-time favorite TV series; Law and Order and Blue Bloods. Bob was a New England sports fanatic; he enjoyed watching the Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox and the Celtics. If you ever needed an update on the most recent draft picks and trades, Bob was absolutely the man to call.
Robert was the loving father of Meredith, Marissa and Robert Burns, formerly of Woburn. He was the dear brother of Terri Williams and her husband Robert of Wakefield, and Michael Burns and his wife Ashlyn of Hollis, NH. He is also survived by his dear aunt and godmother Rosemarie Devlin, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
On behalf of Robert’s family, all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob’s name to Woburn Youth Soccer, c/o Kevin Brothers, P.O. Box 2054 Woburn, MA 01888-0054
