Obituary

Theodore “Ted” Mitchell, 73, of Rebecca, Georgia, died Thursday April 29, 2021, at his residence.

Graveside services will he held 3 PM, Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Jay Moore officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 PM, prior to the graveside.

Mr. Mitchell was born March 26, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late J.C. Mitchell, Sr. & Sally Smith Mitchell. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He earned several medals including the National Defense Service, Good Conduct, Army Commendation, and Republic of Vietnam Service. He also received a Meritorious Unit commendation. Mr. Mitchell retired from Delphi Corporation in 2006. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the United Auto Workers Union. Mr. Mitchell coached for DLS and served on the Ben Hill County Board of Education. He loved his country and was very patriotic. Mr. Mitchell was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Jeryl O. “Jeri” Mitchell of Rebecca; two sons: David L. Mitchell & Karen of Rebecca and Kevin L. Mitchell of Leesburg; a daughter, Pamela Mitchell Dombrovski & Cecil of Kathleen; four grandchildren: Steven Mitchell, Camryn Lynn, Maggie Elizabeth and Jake Mitchell; two great-grandchildren: Hayden Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell; two brothers: James R. Mitchell of Port Arthur, Texas and Robert M. Mitchell & Lisa of Ashford, Alabama and a sister, Joyce Werner of Palm Beach, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Mitchell, Jr. and a brother-in-law, George Werner.
