Mary Christine Walsh, 86, of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of New Bedford, MA, and Naples, FL died Thursday, April 22, 2021, at UPMC West Shore Hospital.
Miss Walsh retired as a Principal in the New Bedford School District. Her teaching career spanned 42 years.
She was born on July 26, 1934, in New Bedford, MA, the daughter of the late William P. and Mary P. (Kinniery) Walsh. She was preceded in death by a sister, Paula Ann Beliveau.
During her many years as a school teacher she enjoyed traveling to Ireland and Europe. Gardening was a lifelong passion. She was always found to have a book in her hand, and for the later years, her dog Arty by her feet. After retirement she was an active crew member on the Tall Ship, The Ernestina. She was involved with the New Bedford Whaling Museum and the Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Historical Association.
Surviving are her brother and his wife, Lawrence W. and Anne M. Walsh of Camp Hill, PA; five nephews, Timothy P. Walsh M.D., Lawrence L. Walsh, Daniel W. Walsh M.D., Dennis M. Walsh and Kevin J. Walsh; and two nieces, Mary P. Sadlon and Patty Ann Martin.
Her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday in St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, PA. Her burial service will be held on Monday May 3, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
