Thomas J. “Buddy” Aspell, Sr.
Retired Raytheon Quality Control Engineer

TEWKSBURY: Thomas J. “Buddy” Aspell, Sr. age 85, a resident of Tewksbury for 81 years, passed away in the care of his family on Friday, April 23, 2021.

He was the beloved husband of Maureen Curran Aspell, with who he would have celebrated their 61th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2020.

Born in Charlestown on March 19, 1936, he was the son of the late Mary Kehoe and the late Patrick J. Aspell of Newfoundland, Canada.

Buddy was raised in Tewksbury and attended local schools. During his high school years, he was a three-sport athlete and served as captain of the football team.

In 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a radar operator until his honorable discharge in 1959.

He was retired from the Raytheon Corporation, where he worked as a Quality Control Engineer for 38 years.

Buddy was an avid gardener, sports fan and reader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas J. Aspell, Jr. and his wife Mary of Concord, NH, Erin M. Smolinsky and her husband Frank of Stafford, VA, Patrick J. Aspell of Tewksbury, Terence J. Aspell and his wife Tammy of Methuen, and Alicemary Aspell and her life partner Todd Paris of Lexington; ten grandchildren, Eireann Sibley of Boscowen, NH, Casey M. Aspell of Hooksett, NH, Colin Smolinsky of Richmond, VA, , Conor Smolinsky of Richamond, VA, Curran and Caileen Smolinsky both of Stafford, VA, Keyara Aspell of Methuen, Tieren, Sabine, and Kallen Aspell all of Lexington, three great grandchildren, Reese Smolinsky and Charlotte Smolinsky both of Richmond, VA, and Isabelle Sibley of Boscawen, NH; two sisters, Joan (Aspell) Starr of Tewksbury and Nancy (Aspell) Spaulding of Chelmsford.

Buddy was the brother of the late Patrick Aspell, Edward Aspell, Sarah Aspell, Elizabeth Aspell, and Kathleen M. (Aspell) Curran.

At the request of the family, private services were held. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
