Obituary

Dr. Stephen James Healey, III
1932 – 2021

Stephen James Healey, MD, of Westwood, Massachusetts, formerly of Weston and Osterville, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at his home on April 26, 2021. He was a caring, conscientious physician who possessed a wonderful sense of humor and contagious laugh. A devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, he cherished spending time with his family. He spent his final days with his children and grandchildren staying up to date with their lives and finding great joy in their accomplishments.

Steve was born in Bridgeport, CT on June 2, 1932, the son of Rose H. and Stephen J. Healey, Jr. He attended Harvard College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude and Harvard Medical School where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his surgical residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. For several decades, he was in solo private practice as a general and vascular surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Faulkner Hospital, and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital after which he was Chief of Surgery at MIT Health Services until his retirement.

Steve led a full and happy life. He met his true love, Anne Marie Walsh at a dance when he was in medical school. They had four children and their 60th wedding anniversary would have been this June. He loved playing tennis and made many lifetime friends at Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill. In the summers, he spent time at his favorite place, Wianno, and played tennis and golf at The Wianno Club and Oyster Harbors Club. For fifty years, he enjoyed some of his happiest times with his extended family at his Wianno home.

He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years, Anne Marie (Walsh) of Westwood. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Ann O’Connor (Westwood); his four children, Elizabeth Baldini and her husband Edward (Dedham); Stephen Healey, IV and his wife Catherine (Wellesley); Peter Healey and his wife Margot (Cohasset); Katherine Saunders and her husband Gregory (Weston); and his eight grandchildren of whom he was so proud, George and Eliza Baldini, Quinn and Cotter Healey, Morgan and Ben Healey, and Clark and Lindsay Saunders. He was predeceased by his sister Katharine Hagman.

Due to the current health crisis, memorial services will be private.
