FALL RIVER – Irondina Kaeton, 91, of Somerset passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Catholic Memorial Nursing home. She was the devoted wife of David Kaeton for 69 years until he passed in 2016. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of Maria and Adelino Ferreira and the oldest of 7 children.
She married David Kaeton in 1947 in Sao Miguel and by 1948 they began their life together in Dighton, Ma. In 1951 they moved to Somerset and bought their family home in 1958 where they raised their 3 children. Providing a warm comfortable loving home for her family was her passion. She delighted in renovating, decorating, cleaning, cooking, and gardening, but she was ultimately known for her sewing.
She began her work life immediately in several sewing shops in Somerset and Fall River. Being an excellent seamstress, she was welcomed to the bridal shop, Brides Unlimited, Fall River and not only did the fittings for many brides, bridesmaids and mothers but would also help brides design their own wedding dress. Along with creating beautiful wedding gowns, she also helped her husband in his business, Kaeton Upholstery.
Irondina was a member of Assembly of God Church until its closing and then Calvary Bible Church, Fall River. She belonged to the Women’s groups in both churches and loved cooking for their luncheons. The members of her church were all family to her.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Edith Martin and her husband William from Chelmsford, Ma., her son, David Katon and his wife Paula from Somerset, Ma., her son, Timothy Katon and his wife Michelle from Brandon, Fl.. She adored her 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Eric Katon, Joel Katon and his wife Jennifer, Jacqueline SooHoo and her husband Jason, Shannon Conlon and her husband Robert, Timothy Katon and Anna Katon. She was blessed with 6 great grandchildren; Wyatt and Leah Katon, Jackson and Katon SooHoo, Robert III and Bear Conlon. She leaves behind her sister, Maria Mello and brother Isadore Ferreira and his wife Alda and her sister in law, Mary Lou Ferreira. She was predeceased by her brothers, Adelino, Manuel, and Everett. She had many nieces and nephews that loved her and were very caring and attentive. Her children are greatly appreciative to Nancy and Greg Heath, Connie and Abilio Ferreira, Emily and John DeMello, Lorraine and Raul DeMello and Rosa and Joseph Souza.
Her family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Catholic Memorial Nursing Home for their care of their Mom and the hospitality they offered to their Dad during his daily visits there.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate a funeral service at the Calvary Temple at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, May 5th. Interment in Nathan Slade Cemetery.
